Metis’ gravatar

The gravatar used on this blog, accompanying Facebook Page and on Twitter is a photograph by Lalla Essaydi who was a featured artist at the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art. Essaydi’s art usually “combines Islamic calligraphy with representations of the female body, addressing the complex reality of Arab female identity from the unique perspective of personal experience.”

It is a small effort to promote Muslim feminist art.
